When it comes to our children, making our home safer becomes second nature. We install child safety locks on cabinets, put up baby gates, make sure our doors have up to date locks, and make sure they cannot reach anything that can cause them harm. But, we do often overlook our garage as an area that needs to be child-friendly, mostly because we do not feel that a garage is a place where our children will go. Now, that may be the case, but expecting your children not to enter it is not a form of household protection for them. Let us provide you with some tips on how you can make your garage a safer place for your kids.
Lock Your Doors
The best way to keep them from entering the garage is to make sure the doors to it are locked; this means both the internal door leading to the garage and the garage door itself. In addition to this, you will want to make sure the doors to your car while it is stored in your garage is locked too.
Unplug Your Electrical Items
Do not leave any electrical equipment plugged in, as this could be turned on and lead to serious injury on your child’s part.
Keep Hazardous Material Locked Up
Do not let your child have access to any hazardous material; this includes paint, poisons, fuel, etc.
Give them a Crash Course
Take them through and explain to them the safety precautions that must be taken when it comes to being in the garage. Let them know what dangers are present, what they can and cannot touch, and what to do in case of an accident. Remember, it is your job to make sure they are prepared to enter the garage.
