Palm Beach County follows the Florida Building Code with design wind speeds that vary by how close you are to the coast. Two homes ten miles apart can require different rated doors — always design to your address, not to your county.

How to read a product approval before you buy

Every legitimate rated door has paperwork. Before you sign, ask for the FL Product Approval or NOA number and confirm three things on it: the exact door width and height you're buying, the design pressure it's approved for, and the required anchoring into your jamb type (wood buck, concrete, or block).

Insurance is the offset most homeowners forget. Florida carriers apply wind mitigation credits for verified opening protection, and a rated garage door plus a wind mitigation inspection often takes a real bite out of the annual premium.

Can you retrofit instead of replacing?

If your door is over 15 years old, has rust at the bottom section, or is a single-layer non-insulated pan door, a rated replacement is the better spend — you get compliance, insurance credit, insulation and curb appeal in one job.
